My name is Robert Heard and I am the Pastor of the Independent House of God in Hillsborro Tennessee. I would like to thank you for taking a few minutes to learn about our amazing church. If you finish this video and have more questions please contact us anytime using the contact information on our home page at www.independenthouseofGod.com.
There are plenty of great things about our church that I will share with you in a moment, but first let me begin by telling you what we are not.
1. We are not a mega church packed with programs.
2. We do not have committees of a mixture of Believers and non-Believers making decisions that determine how we conduct God’s business.
3. We do not have cliques that sit in the corners talking about other members.
4. We are not denominational bound. In other words, we are not labeled by what denomination we are, instead we simply known as Believers.
5. Our teachers are all called to teach the class they are instructing. A teacher is never just filling in because no one else will take the class.
6. We are not a house of judgment but rather a house of sanctuary.
7. We do not have a formal dress code. We only expect you to show up with clothes on.
8. We only use one book to guide our organization and that book is the Bible.
9. We do not have a dictator we have a Pastor who operates as a Shepherd (more details later).
10. We do not give money to another organization to give to missions as they see fit. We support missions directly.
We are a small congregation made up of Believers from all denominational backgrounds. We are currently worshipping the Lord in a member’s home, just as the first Christian churches did. We do not plan on worshiping in a home for a long period of time, however we want to be good stewards with God’s money and will move when we can do so and stay dept free.
I preach the Scripture and when possible use Power Point to help visual learners like myself. The sermons are arranged and presented in a classroom atmosphere. A person remembers more information that is given to them through interactive instruction better than when they just listen to a monologue. Also, if you are more engaged in the sermon you will most likely be more comfortable to apply what you learn outside of the services.
As the Pastor I fill the role of a Shepherd to the flock of Independent House of God. The flock belongs to God, I am just the Shepherd He has assigned to this particular group of Believers. There is only one church. We are only a small part of the Bride of Christ.
A Shepherd protects the sheep from false doctrine. He teaches the Word of God above anything else and is held to a stricter judgment for his teaching. A Shepherd serves the people and becomes a positive example with great obedience to the Lord. I have to be as faithful to my family as I am to the church and commit myself to the ministry as I have to my wife and kids. As a Pastor I must rely on God and the Holy Bible above anything or anyone else. I have to make the decisions that are right no matter how uncomfortable they may be for me and my family.
As Believers we share the same purpose here on earth. We are not here to just wait for the t9me to pass till our death or even until Christ returns. God wants to use us to reach others for Christ. In order to this very important job, we need to know how to be more like Christ. The word Christian means “Christ like.” To be more like Him requires us to be disciples. It is my belief that one of the greatest mistakes that way too many churches make, is they fail to disciple new Believers.
We at the Independent House of God focus on two simple goals- 1. In Reach & 2. Out Reach.
1. In Reach- We believe that every Christian must have a personal
relationship with God that is constantly evolving. Our services are designed to educate the congregation and encourage them to have some personal time for studying the Word on their
own. To aid their Spiritual growth we mentor and support each other as a family should.

2. Out Reach- The love of God was not meant to keep for ourselves. Believers may no
longer be bound by sin, however, we are now enslaved to God. What is the purpose of
Equipping the Saints if they do not use their faith and knowledge of the Word to further the
Kingdom of God? Remember our creed, "Our Mission is the Great Commission!"
First the Father gave the authority to Christ, and then the Messiah gave the authority to us
with the command to use it. Go share the Great News!

We are a loving place that teaches the Word and encourages you to share your beliefs. The services are laid back with a congregation that fellowship each other over cups coffee and pound cake.
Matthew 28:18-20 says-
And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven
and on earth.
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father
and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo,
I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
