John the Baptist Preaches

John the Baptist was born six months before Christ and was a son of a priest. John was also Jesus's cousin.
He was called to preach Gods message for the preparation of Christ ministry. In the next few weeks we are talking about Christ's ministry in our Sunday services. (See our website for more information on how to attend our studies www.independenthouseofGod.com.)
Verse 3-
3And he came into all the district around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins;
The message he taught was a sermon of the need for man to have repentance for the forgiveness of our sins. Sin separates us from God and must be forgiven by God in order to receive Salvation through Christ. We have to realize we are sinful and ask for forgiveness.
Repentance is more than just saying a half-hearted prayer of, "Sorry God." You must have a change of heart, mind and soul. You must truly want to turn over a new leaf and grow a stronger relationship with God.
The baptism did not save those he preached to. I was only a sign of the change that was happening in the peoples lives. He immersed them water showing them entering the water as a sinner and coming out washed and clean from any imperfections.
Verse 7-
7He came as a witness, to testify about the Light(Christ, the opposite of Darkness), so that all might believe through him. 8He was not the Light, but he came to testify about the Light.
As a witness you share what you have seen or experienced personally with others. John himself realized his own sins and repented and then shared his own testimony. He told of one who will be known as the Light, Jesus Christ. Christ was also called the “Sun of righteousness.” Light brings the end of darkness.
